So you want to go to Convention, but you just don't have the funds. This post is a love letter for you, and for myself. For the last 2 years I was able to attend doTERRA's Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. It's a total blast and I'm super sad to miss it this year. But I have a secret to share with you. Both times I went to convention, I financed the trip... meaning I paid for it on a credit card.
I'm going to be open with you here. My blog is a place for me to be myself and be totally real with you.
Do we go into Debt to get to Convention?
My husband and I, like most Americans, are digging ourselves out of the debt hole. We are almost out, and have been working super hard at this. I will tell you it's certainly not easy to send money away to debts, when I would much rather go to Convention, or go on a family trip somewhere. It's super easy to get yourself into trouble, debt is a slippery slope and it's not easy to climb your way back out.
For the last few months, I have been plaguing myself with guilt. Letting the words and feelings of others manipulate my choices, and I almost... I almost tried to pull a convention trip out my butt. I've cried over this. I've pined over this. I want to be there.
I need to do what is best for my family, and right now, that is utilizing the doTERRA resources I have here at home, working my business, and continue to climb. This is so hard, when every avenue around me is basically screaming at me, and telling me that I'm failing my team by not going. The most important thing to me in regards to my success with doTERRA is that I am providing for my family and making our dreams come true. One of those dreams is financial freedom, moving out of state (again) and traveling. For us... that is the order in which it must happen. Dave Ramsey says, “If you will live today like no one else, later you can live and give like no one else.”
Let me put this simply, I would never tell my team to go into debt to get to Convention. I would never advocate that, because doTERRA as a company would not advocate for that either.
“doTERRA wants to be known as the company that helps the most people get out of debt."

I was trying to find a way to write something inspiring, for those of us that just aren't able to get ourselves to Utah this year, and this is my way of doing it. I want to share about doTERRA's Free to Give Program, what it is, and what you can do to get yourself to a place of financial freedom. Free to Give is a new doTERRA-sponsored incentive program designed to inspire Wellness Advocates to pay off debt and live abundantly while becoming free financially in order to be in a better position to give to others.
Focus on Four Types of Debt
Being financially free is a long-term goal for most people. With the Free to Give program, Wellness Advocates will see the benefits that come from being free of debt and loans, allowing you to enjoy living with financial freedom. In doing so, you will be in a position to give to others who have just started their own financial independence journey.
We have categorized the most common kinds of debt into four categories:
- Credit Cards
- Car Payments
- Loans and Medical Bills
Paying off any one of these debt categories is a huge accomplishment. Each Wellness Advocate enrolled in the Free to Give program who achieves financial independence in any one of these areas will receive a token to symbolize this achievement. Our goal is that our Wellness Advocates can begin the journey to becoming free one category at a time, until you are ultimately in a place where you are Free to Give.
When you are trying to eliminate debt, it helps to have resources. doTERRA has partnered with The 4 Laws of Financial Prosperity by Blaine Harris and Charles Coonradt to create a customized doTERRA version of the book.
This book includes many helpful tips to paying off debt, including descriptions of each of the 4 Laws which are: Track, Target, Trim, and Train. Becoming debt free makes it possible to achieve financial peace of mind and live an abundant lifestyle where you can give to others.
Have you purchased your copy of "The 4 Laws of Financial Prosperity" yet? If not, you totally should! This book is an easy read with several financial tips to help you on your journey to financial freedom! You can purchase yours today through your Virtual Office. I absolutely recommend spending the money on THIS since you are unable to attend convention. It is a small purchase and it won't break the bank.
Here are a few other resources that doTERRA has made available for you:
I hope that you found this helpful. If you are making it to convention, but you have teammates that can't make it, please pass this along. One of the greatest things about going to convention is knowing that you aren't alone in all of this, and I hope that this blog post serves as a reminder that you aren't alone as well.
Follow your dreams, dig yourself out of that hole, and save up the money for your next convention trip. You will have so much more fun knowing that it isn't digging you into a deeper hole.
